Laborer dies in liquor trader’s hideout

Mahasamund. The dangerous game of illegal mahua liquor manufacturing in village Kailashpur took the life of a young man. A big illegal mahua liquor trader in the area had been making liquor by rotting mahua leaves in a deep well-like pit in his house for a long time.

Recently, a young man named Arjun Nayak, a laborer, went down to this pit to take mahua leaves, where he fell unconscious due to poisonous gas. Another youth who went to save him was also caught in the poisonous gas and he also fell unconscious there. Both were brought to the Community Health Center Pithora, from where Arjun Nayak was referred to Raipur. Arjun died during treatment.

The villagers allege that complaints of illegal liquor manufacturing were given to Pithora police station and Superintendent of Police several times, but no action has been taken so far. Despite Arjun’s death, no concrete steps have been taken against the businessman by the police administration. Villagers say that such incidents are the result of the negligence and carelessness of the police and excise. If action had been taken in time, Arjun’s life could have been saved. There is anger against the administration in the entire area due to this incident.
