Kurukshetra: Residents protest against slow pace of railway underpass construction
Kurukshetra: Angry over the slow pace of construction of a railway underpass near Doda Khedi station, people on Sunday staged a protest and sat on the railway track for some time. Upon receiving information, railway officials and police personnel reached the spot and pacified the protesters. Gopal Saini, former sarpanch of Doda Khedi village, said, “The work of constructing the underpass was to begin in January 2023, but there has been no progress for several months. There is no staff at the site and due to the delay in work, residents of several villages have to take a long way to reach their destination. Since the farmers’ fields are on one side of the track, they face difficulty in reaching their fields.” He said, “We have repeatedly raised the issue with railway officials and they have been giving only assurances. They have assured that the work will be completed soon. If this does not happen, we will be forced to take some tough decisions.” Thanesar Sadar police station SHO Baljit Singh said, “Some people were protesting against the delay in the construction of the underpass, but railway officials pacified them. Rail traffic remained smooth.”
