Krishna flow: Increase by 2.64 lakh cusecs

Karnataka : Despite scanty rainfall in the Western Ghats region of Maharashtra and Chikkodi sub-division, the flow of Krishna, Dudhganga and Vedganga rivers in the sub-division rose by 2.64 lakh cusecs on Friday. Due to this, people living along the riverbanks continue to migrate to safer places with their cattle.

The flow of the Krishna river rose to 2,64,223 cusecs by Thursday evening. As a result, 12 bridges are still submerged. As a result, people are having to take detours between Karnataka and Maharashtra, and communication between villages is becoming difficult due to the submergence of small bridges.

The district administration has reserved 39 boats in various taluks of the sub-division as a precautionary measure. It has identified 66 safe places for the safety of livestock. It has also set up 141 care centres to evacuate people to safer places in case of floods. It has taken several precautionary measures in Chikkodi, Athani, Raibagha, Nippani and Kagwad taluks of Chikkodi sub-division.

The outflow of Dudhganga river near Rajapure barrage in Sadalga town of Kolhapur district of Maharashtra is 45,056 cusecs, while the outflow of Krishna river near Kallola-Yadur barrage in the taluk is 2,64,223 cusecs.
