Koyambedu market will remain closed on January 17 on account of Pongal.

According to an official announcement from the traders’ association, the Koyambedu vegetable market in Chennai will be closed on Saturday, January 17, due to the Pongal festival.
G.T. Rajasekhar, president of the Koyambedu All Traders Association Federation, stated that this decision was taken because farm laborers, traders, and market employees would be returning home to celebrate Pongal, making it impractical to operate the vegetable market on the festival day.
However, he clarified that the Koyambedu fruit market and flower market would operate as usual, ensuring continued availability of fruits and flowers.
Traders have advised customers to plan their vegetable purchases in advance to avoid inconvenience caused by the vegetable market being closed for a day.
