Kim inspected the construction site of a greenhouse farm in Sinuiju

Seoul: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inspected the construction site of a greenhouse farm in the northwestern city of Sinuiju, state media reported on Thursday. This comes as North Korea is pushing ahead with regional development projects.
Yonhap quoted the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) as saying that Kim visited the Sinuiju Combined Greenhouse Farm the previous day, where construction is nearing completion.
North Korea is building a large greenhouse farm on large areas of Wihwa Island, a small island off Sinuiju that suffered flood damage last summer.
Since attending the farm’s groundbreaking ceremony in February, the North Korean leader has visited the construction site almost every month since August.
KCNA said the greenhouse farm’s construction is 97 percent complete. KCNA said, “He expressed great joy that this small island, once considered a barren land, has now become a golden little island, with great potential for regional development and improving the material and cultural lives of the local people.”
North Korea is expected to highlight the completion of the Sinuiju farm as a key achievement of Kim’s signature regional development policy at next month’s full party meeting or a key party congress early next year.
Last year, Kim introduced a policy to build modern factories in 20 cities and counties each year over a 10-year period to improve living conditions for people in regional areas.
Ahead of major party events, the North’s leader has been focusing on regional development-related visits in recent months, including attending the groundbreaking ceremony for a hospital on the outskirts of Pyongyang.
