Khammam: Farmer attempted suicide due to land dispute

Khammam: A farmer Aleti Venkat Reddy attempted suicide by consuming pesticide in his field at Janapahad village in Khammam rural mandal of the district. Before attempting suicide on Sunday, the farmer made a selfie video in which he alleged that a man named Jathoth Veeranna was encroaching upon his agricultural land. He complained that the matter was brought to the notice of the police several times, but the police sided with Veeranna. Venkat Reddy, who fell unconscious after consuming pesticide, was admitted to a private hospital in Khammam for treatment after his family members were informed by the locals.

It is said that Venkat Reddy owns three acres of land in the village. Veeranna had purchased a piece of land from Venkat Reddy’s brother Bhupal Reddy some time ago. The family members said that since the land was not suitable for farming, Veeranna was trying to encroach upon their land by changing the boundaries. Cases have already been registered at the local police station over the issue. It is alleged that Bhupal Reddy committed suicide by consuming pesticide due to land dispute in 2021. The local police said that a case has been registered on the complaint of Venkat Reddy’s family and the investigation is underway.
