Kerala: The NDA has declared V V Rajesh as the mayor of Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The NDA has finalized V V Rajesh’s name for the post of Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. R Sreelekha will not become the Deputy Mayor either. Until this morning, Sreelekha’s name was being considered for the mayoral post. However, after the intervention of the RSS, V V Rajesh’s name came under active consideration. Following this, the central leadership proposed Rajesh’s name. Indications are that Asha Nath may be brought in to replace Sreelekha for the Deputy Mayor’s post. A faction of leaders was against making R Sreelekha the Mayor. They had complained to the central leadership on this issue. The organization’s General Secretary S Suresh and Thiruvananthapuram City District President Karamana Jayan immediately met Sreelekha at her residence.
Until this morning, there were indications that former DGP R Sreelekha would become the Mayor. She was given priority in the final round of discussions within the BJP.
It was assessed that the party would benefit in the assembly elections, among other things, if the state’s first woman IPS officer became the Mayor. Rajesh’s name emerged after a faction of leaders protested against choosing the former DGP as Mayor.
