Kerala: Politics and Bollywood linked, a secret revealed in CJ Roy’s diary

KOCHI: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Criminal Investigation Department will investigate the mystery behind the death of Dr. C.J. Roy, founder and chairman of the Confident Group. The billionaire, who had investments and businesses in several countries including the UAE, committed suicide by shooting himself during a raid by the Central Income Tax (IT) Department. The case was so significant that the Karnataka government immediately handed it over to the SIT. Indications are that a wide-ranging investigation will be conducted, including into the real estate sector.
There are indications that Roy’s diary contains the names of two influential MLAs from Kerala, a former MP, and prominent actresses and models from South India. Local media reported that Roy had written in the diary about his businesses in Dubai and his connections with influential people. It is also suggested that he mentioned business connections with MLAs from Bengaluru and Kolar district. A thorough investigation is being planned, including recording statements from IT officials and all the individuals mentioned in the diary.
IT officials informally stated that Roy had also written that he was not under any pressure. Roy’s statement was recorded on Thursday. Department sources also said that the proceedings were conducted in the presence of another witness. Officials said they would cooperate with any investigation. The raid was conducted by an eight-member Income Tax team from Kochi. The raid followed the issuance of a notice and summoning Roy from Dubai.
