Karnataka Congress’s student election panel meeting will be held on January 13.

Karnataka: The committee formed by the State Congress Committee to examine the possibility of resuming the practice of holding elections in higher learning institutions is expected to hold its first meeting on January 13th. Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil, who is also the committee’s convener, confirmed on Friday that the panel will meet on January 13th. Citing his experience in student politics, the minister said, “Many of us began our political journey on college campuses. We are also keen to bring back elections in colleges and are exploring all possibilities.”

The minister said the committee will consult with representatives of all student organizations on the issue. “We will seek feedback from all stakeholders. We want to harness the leadership potential of students.”

Elections were banned in state colleges 36 years ago, but DCM DK Shivakumar recently expressed interest in resuming campus politics and formed a committee to examine the possibility of reintroducing elections in colleges.

‘Menstrual Leave’

Patil said that CM Siddaramaiah will take the final decision on granting menstrual leave to girls.
