‘Joy could not be rescued, corporation did all that possible,’ Mayor gets emotional, sheds tears while talking to MLA
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mayor Arya Rajendran could not control her tears for not being able to rescue Joy, the sanitation worker who went missing while cleaning the Amayizhanjan Canal. The mayor broke down while talking to C K Hareendran MLA after Joy’s body was brought to the medical college hospital.
The mayor said could not save his life despite taking so much effort and hoped to rescue him. The mayor told the MLA that the corporation did everything all that possible. The mayor got emotional amid criticism that corporation’s negligence led to Joy’s death. Hareendran MLA, who was with her consoled her.
Joy (42), son of Neshamani and Mary of Marayamuttam, went missing on Saturday morning. Joy went missing while removing the garbage from the Amayizhanjan Canal that flows underneath the Thampanoor Central Railway Station. Supervisor Kumar after seeing the water flowing strongly while lifting the plastic waste in sacks, asked him to return.Meanwhile, due to the force of the current, Joy tripped and fell into the tunnel. Kumar threw a rope but Joy could not catch it. Joy was the only one in the canal when the incident happened. A search was started using a robot named Bandicoot of the Genrobotics company at 8 pm that night. A search was conducted for 46 hours but he could not be found. His body was found in the canal behind Chitra Home in Thakaraparambu Monday morning.
