Jharkhand Mukti Morcha demands meeting with President Murmu to discuss Sarna Code, reservation
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has sought a meeting with president Draupadi Murmu to submit a representation regarding “some important issues” which the party wants to raise before the general elections.
JMM General Secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey, in a letter addressed to the Secretary to the President, said that a 50-member delegation of JMM MPs, ministers and MLAs from Jharkhand and senior party functionaries is looking forward to meeting the President. Representation.
The letter, written on March 4 but shared with the media on Thursday, also mentions important issues such as “Sarna Code, SC/ST and OBC reservation and Jharkhand’s 1932 local policy”.
Earlier, the Hemant Soren government had also put forward the same issues, but they could not be presented due to facing some hurdles.
The state government then wanted the Sarna code to be introduced in the religious column of the census form which has a provision for followers of six religions – Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Jain.
While the tribals took out rallies demanding implementation of the Sarna Code, Hemant had also written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September last year urging him to implement the Sarna Code.
Similarly, Hemant government also passed a bill to increase the total reservation quota for SC, ST and OBC to 77 percent. It also passed a bill making the Khatian (land records) of 1932 the basis for determining the local people of the state. But the then Governor returned both the bills last year suggesting amendments.
