Janmashtami to be celebrated in Puri Jagannath temple, here is the list of rituals

Puri: On the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami, Puri Jagannath temple shall celebrate the occasion with much pomp and show. The temple shall celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna with traditional fervor.

Reports say that, the rituals of Janmashtami shall start with the ‘Sandhya Dhupa’ in the evening. It shall then be followed by the grand Janmashtami celebrations. The ritual shall bring into the world Lord Krishna and mark his holy birth.

The sevayats will begin the Janmashtami celebrations, inspired by the divine stories of Devika and Vasudeva. In the evening, a symbolic portrayal of birth of Lord Krishna will be enacted near the eastern gate of the Jagannath Temple. In the presence of the Pujapanda sevayats the birth of Lord Krishna will be vividly depicted, and a golden idol of Lord Krishna will grace the temple.

The festivities will conclude with the placement of Lord Madan Mohan in a chariot near the Jagamohana (prayer hall) around midnight. These Janmashtami celebrations will continue over the coming days (nanda utsav), featuring various enactments of divine plays (Lilas).

This annual celebration of Janmashtami holds a special place in the hearts of devotees, as it marks the birth of Lord Krishna and is observed with special devotion, festive fervour and huge enthusiasm.
