Jammu News: Police seized property worth Rs 73 lakh of drug smugglers

Srinagar. Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police has seized property worth Rs 73,52,831 of drug traffickers in Handwara area in the current year. Police had launched continuous drives against drug traffickers and suppliers in Handwara.

“Police, while taking action against the problem of drug trade, launched a crackdown on those involved in drug trade by seizing their properties,” a police spokesperson said.

“During investigation of various cases registered against all these drug traffickers, wherever investigation revealed that the drug traffickers have managed to create and increase assets from illegal drug trade, action was initiated against them as per the provisions of law,” a police spokesperson said.

“In 10 cases registered against four known drug traffickers in Handwara area, properties worth about Rs 73,52,831 have been seized in the current year. The properties have been attached as part of investigation of cases registered against these traffickers,” the spokesperson said. Further, in order to severely curb all such elements, apart from attachment of properties of drug traffickers, preventive custody under the provisions of PITNDPS has also been imposed against 08 persons involved in drug trade and drug trafficking in the current year,” the police said. Initiating similar action against terror operatives as court proclaimed offenders, land properties of various measurements owned by such terror operatives have been seized in Handwara area, which is estimated to be about 3.5 kanals in total, the police said.

Four terror operatives who were wanted by law for involvement in various kinds of terror activities and were treated as fugitives by the court were declared as proclaimed offenders. As such, action was initiated against them under relevant sections of law and the police arrested them through proper channels by the authorities,” the police said. Their properties were identified. Accordingly, the properties identified in the name of these terror operatives were confiscated by the court of law. Similar action is also underway against other 51 terror operatives who have been declared offenders by the court of law and who are involved in terrorism-related cases in Handwara. The District Magistrate of Handwara has also been asked to initiate the process of registering red entries in the revenue records against these terror operatives operating from PoK, so as to prevent these properties from getting wasted and restrict their use to the terror ecosystem, police said.
