Jammu News: Drug smuggler’s property worth Rs 2 crore seized

Jammu, Jammu: Continuing its crackdown against drug smugglers, police in Jammu district on Monday seized properties worth Rs 2 crore of a notorious drug smuggler.

The properties of the drug smuggler, identified as Chirag Atri alias Chetan, resident of Chak Jaralan, Bishnah, were seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act as part of the drive against drug smugglers under ‘Operation Sanjivani’.

“The accused is a habitual and repeat offender and several NDPS cases have been registered against him earlier and recently he has been detained under PIT NDPS,” an official said.

The police have seized three properties, including a house, a commercial hall and a vehicle. The officer said, “This action was taken under Section 68-E, F of the NDPS Act of 1985 and is connected with various cases of NDPS Act registered against the said notorious drug smuggler. During investigation/interrogation conducted by the police, the properties were identified as illegally acquired properties. Prima facie, these properties were acquired by the drug smuggler from illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.” Presently, the said notorious drug smuggler has been detained in three different police stations under PIT NDPS Act issued by Divisional Commissioner Jammu. Police has urged the local people to give any information about drug trafficking in their neighbourhood and warned that anyone found involved in drug trafficking will be dealt with strictly as per law.
