Jalandhar: Two people arrested with 500 grams of heroin in separate operations

Jalandhar: SBS Nagar police have arrested two drug smugglers in separate operations under the NDPS Act and recovered a total of 500 grams of heroin and drug money from them. This has further strengthened their ongoing campaign against narcotics trafficking in the district. According to Tushar Gupta, Senior Superintendent of Police, SBS Nagar, in the first incident, a police team from the CIA staff was patrolling near the Sugar Mill area and railway crossing in Nawanshahr when they noticed a suspicious young man carrying a black bag. The man, alarmed by the police party, threw the bag near a room in the Railway Department and tried to flee, but was apprehended after a swift chase. He was identified as Gurjinder Singh, a resident of Mahal Khurd village in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district. Upon searching the discarded bag, 100 grams of heroin and alleged drug money worth ₹18,000 were recovered, along with his Aadhaar card. SSP Gupta said that in the second case, another police team was conducting routine checking in Rahon when a man panicked upon seeing the police and threw a black polythene packet near an electric pole before trying to flee. He was apprehended and identified as Ranjeet Singh alias Jawanda, a resident of Rahon. Upon opening the packet, police found 400 grams of heroin. Separate cases have been registered under Section 21 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and possible links to a larger drug network.
