Jalandhar: Two people arrested on charges of kidnapping and demanding ransom

Jalandhar: Phillaur police led by DSP Sarwan Singh Ball acted swiftly and rescued the kidnapped person safely and arrested two main accused within few hours of getting information about the incident. According to police, on June 27, Kamaljit Kaur, wife of victim Teja Singh, resident of Chaharra village under Ladowal police station of Ludhiana district dialled emergency helpline number 112 and informed that her husband has been kidnapped. She informed that the kidnappers are demanding Rs 20,000 to release her husband. Acting promptly on this, Sub-Inspector Govinder Singh, ASI Paramjit Singh and other policemen of Phillaur police station traced the victim using his mobile number with the help of technical cell. Based on the coordinates, the police team traced Teja Singh safely and rescued him and arrested two kidnappers – Mandeep Singh, resident of Jagatpura Panjdera village and Kamlesh Singh, resident of Tehing village. During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused were part of an organised gang including Narinder Kumar, a resident of Jagatpura, and Kiranjit Kaur, also from Jagatpura. The gang ran a honey trap scheme, where Kiranjit would invite unknown men to her house on false pretexts. Once the victim would form a relationship with her, the male members of the gang would reach the place, kidnap the person and demand ransom. On the day of the incident, the victim Teja Singh was taken by the gang on separate motorcycles to a remote area of Jhandepir village near the Satluj river. Later, he was held hostage in an under-construction house of Kiranjit. The victim was rescued safely and the kidnappers were arrested from the spot. The police also recovered five mobile phones, a motorcycle and a toy pistol used to scare the victims. The accused were produced in a court, from where they were remanded to police custody for further investigation.
