Jalandhar: Travel agent accused of duping youth of Rs 7.75 lakh

Jalandhar: A young man from Sultanpur Lodhi has filed a complaint against a travel agent in Jalandhar district, alleging fraud in the name of sending him to Canada. According to the complaint, Abhay Pratap Singh, a resident of the Kazibagh area of Sultanpur Lodhi, was promised a visa and travel arrangements for Canada last year by the agent. The deal was allegedly struck with the agent, Simranjit Singh, a resident of Khokopur Kalan in the Shahkot police station area of Jalandhar district, for ₹1.5 million.
The complainant stated that he had paid an advance of ₹7.75 million to the agent with the assurance that the remaining amount would be paid upon arrival in Canada. The travel agent allegedly promised to send him abroad within two months. However, despite the complainant’s repeated requests, neither the promised travel arrangements were made nor did the agent return the money. This case highlights the growing problem of immigration scams in Punjab, where thousands of young people, yearly, fall prey to unscrupulous agents with dreams of settling abroad.
