Jalandhar: The councilor prioritized social service over politics.

Jalandhar: In a political landscape often dominated by power struggles and personal gain, Municipal Councillor Anurag Mankhand stands out for his unwavering commitment to social service. A two-time elected representative, he has consistently dedicated his time, energy, and even his salary to the betterment of the community, earning him widespread admiration across the city. At 43 years old, Anurag Mankhand has already built a legacy of compassion. He has donated blood approximately 80 times at various camps and hospitals, saving countless lives. His dedication has also inspired his 18-year-old son, Tanmay, who recently joined him at a major blood donation camp, marking his first contribution. Together, this father-son duo symbolizes a generational commitment to humanity. Beyond human welfare, Mankhand has also demonstrated his compassion for animals, rescuing nearly two thousand cows injured in accidents.
His monthly councillor’s salary of ₹17,000 is entirely spent on social work—providing free medicines to the needy, covering medical expenses for impoverished patients, assisting students with healthcare, and funding books and religious pilgrimages. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he arranged for medicines, vegetables, sanitizers, rations, and community meals, ensuring that no family was left without support. His initiatives also include establishing a gym in Parshuram Park, assisting unemployed youth, and contributing to the maintenance of religious sites. To institutionalize his efforts, he founded the Manurbhav Foundation, which now serves as a platform for education, medical aid, libraries, environmental campaigns, and cultural activities such as poetry. For many in Phagwara, Anurag Mankhand is not just a councillor, but a lifeline—a man who has chosen service over self-interest, and whose work continues to inspire both his family and the wider community. Their journey exemplifies the power of selfless dedication, proving that true leadership lies not in position, but in actions.
