Jalandhar: Students were made aware about the legal rights of women and girls.

Jalandhar: As per the directives received from the National Legal Services Authority and the Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar and under the guidance of Priya Sood, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, the District Legal Services Authority organized a legal awareness program on February 11, 2026, at PM Government High School, Gunachaur. The program was held on the occasion of International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The program was led by Dr. Amandeep, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. Addressing the students, Dr. Amandeep informed that the awareness program was organized as per the guidelines of NALSA and Punjab State Legal Services Authority on the occasion of International Day of Women and Girls in Science. He explained that the primary purpose of such programs is to raise awareness among students and the general public about the significant contributions of women and girls in the field of science and to encourage young girls to pursue careers in scientific and technical fields. During the interaction, students were also informed about legal regulations related to the prevention and control of child marriage. To increase legal awareness among youth, they were provided with comprehensive information about laws designed to prevent child marriage and protect the rights of children. Furthermore, students were informed about the free legal aid services provided by the District Legal Services Authority, the provisions of the POCSO Act, laws related to child labor, and the importance of the toll-free helpline number 15100 for seeking help. On the occasion, Para Legal Volunteers Jaswinder Kaur and Avtar Chand Chumber also addressed the gathering and informed the students about various welfare schemes of the government for the benefit of girls, including Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Poshan Abhiyaan/Mission Poshan 2.0 and schemes promoting girls’ education.
