Jalandhar: 14 cases of power theft were detected in Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Balachaur (Nawanshahr). In a drive against power theft being run by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, enforcement teams of Powercom Jalandhar conducted raids in areas falling under Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Balachaur. Powercom officials arrested 14 persons for power theft and imposed a fine of Rs 6.55 lakh on the offenders.

Seven domestic consumers were found stealing power in Bhani Mirza Khan and Ghogran villages of Hoshiarpur. Similarly, three cases of power theft were detected in Surya Enclave and adjoining areas of Subhanpur in Jalandhar. Two persons were found stealing power in Balachaur. A consumer in Puadaran village of Phagwara was found stealing power through a hook connection by bypassing the approved 7.5 KW load meter. He was fined Rs 1.26 lakh. A case of power theft was caught in Dhilwan, Kapurthala. The officials seized the cable being used for hookah connection.
