Jalandhar: Police urged people to follow traffic rules

Jalandhar: The traffic police, led by Inspector Aman Kumar, conducted a road safety awareness programme near the bus stand in Phagwara. Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur Bhatti made the people present at the workshop aware about the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 as well as the amendments made in it from September 2019, Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 and Motor Vehicles Driving Regulations, 2017. Bhatti said that awareness about traffic rules must be created among the people, especially the youth. She said that traffic rules must be strictly followed to prevent accidents. Traffic incharge Aman Kumar explained about wearing proper safety helmet, importance of putting reflective tape on helmet to see other vehicles at night, importance of wearing seat belt, effect of using mobile phone with ear plug on pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers, effect of drunk driving, importance of lane driving and how to change lanes, importance of rear view mirror and rear view side mirror and checking mirror after indicator and before turning left/right or changing lanes, unnecessary honking and its effect, importance of zebra crossing for pedestrians, effect of driving by teenagers etc. Traffic police officers advised people to switch off the engine of their vehicles when stopped at red light for environmental protection and to give way to emergency vehicles like ambulance, fire brigade and police (PCR).
