Jalandhar: One person arrested with 45 kg opium

Jalandhar: Jalandhar Commissionerate Police led by Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma has arrested a ‘drug smuggler’ and recovered 45 kg of poppy husk from him. The Commissioner informed that the police have arrested a driver named Prakash Singh alias Pasha, resident of Ambedkar Nagar, Gidderbaha with 45 kg of poppy husk. The arrest has been made in connection with the case in which the police team had arrested two accused, Manjit Singh alias Mani, resident of Umrewal village, Mehatpur and Jugraj Singh alias Joga, resident of Daulewal village, Moga.

The police had also recovered 1.025 grams of heroin and 5.058 grams of opium from them. It was revealed that the kingpin of a gang involved in the drug trade is Inderjit Singh alias Labu, resident of Daulewal village. The police today arrested the driver of the kingpin Inderjit. The Police Commissioner said that an FIR was also registered against the arrested accused on August 14 last year under sections 21,18, 29-61-85 of the NDPS Act. He said that further investigation of the case is going on and detailed information will be shared later.
