Jalandhar: Mobile phones seized from jail inmates

Jalandhar: Officials at Central Jail, Kapurthala, uncovered a major security breach during a surprise inspection, recovering several prohibited items, including mobile phones and SIM cards, from jail inmates. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent Sukhpal Singh, who stated that a thorough search of the barracks and inmates was conducted as part of regular security measures.
During the checking, three inmates—Varinder Singh alias Gora, a resident of Busowal village in Kapurthala district, Neeraj Kumar, a resident of Abadpura in Jalandhar, and a female inmate, Hadija Nante, originally from Uganda and residing in Mehtabpur—were found in possession of illegal communication devices.
Officials stated that the recovered items included three mobile phones, three SIM cards, and a battery. These items are prohibited on the jail premises as they pose a serious security threat. Following the seizure, jail authorities immediately informed the police station, following which a case was registered. An investigation has been launched to find out how the prisoners got these banned items and whether any external or internal help was involved.
