Jalandhar: Man arrested with 2 cans of illicit liquor

Jalandhar: Shahkot police arrested a man with a large quantity of illicit liquor during a patrol operation on Wednesday. The arrested accused is a resident of Moga and has been taken into custody. The accused, identified as Balkar Singh, a resident of Rerwan, was carrying two canisters (15,000 ml) of illicit liquor in Dharamkot, Moga. Shahkot DSP Onkar Singh Brar said that as part of the police’s War Against Drugs campaign, ASI Balwinder Singh of Lohian police, along with a team of officers, while patrolling from village Mehrajwala to village Gatta Mundi Kasu, apprehended a man on suspicion. They recovered two plastic cans of illicit liquor. An FIR was registered against the accused at the Lohian police station under sections 61, 1, and 14 of the Excise Act. Balkar was immediately arrested by the police. The DSP said that the Shahkot police is continuously conducting drives against such criminals. The riverside areas of Lohian in Shahkot and Nakodar are under constant police surveillance due to the illegal production of alcohol. The DSP said the police are also conducting simultaneous awareness drives to ensure that those who have become addicted to the drug are made aware of the risks.
