Jalandhar: Lok Adalat Awards Compensation of ₹50.33 Crore

Jalandhar: On Saturday, a National Lok Adalat was organized across the judicial court complexes of Jalandhar, Phillaur, and Nakodar, resulting in the settlement of a total of 47,452 cases and the disbursement of compensation amounting to Rs 50.33 crore. The Lok Adalat covered a wide spectrum of cases, including all types of civil matters, matrimonial disputes, MACT (Motor Accident Claims Tribunal) cases, compoundable criminal offenses, traffic challans, pre-litigation cases involving banks, financial institutions, BSNL, and PSPCL, as well as revenue-related matters. District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson of the DLSA (District Legal Services Authority), Jalandhar—Nirbhau Singh Gill—stated that 27 benches were constituted across Jalandhar, Phillaur, and Nakodar for the event. He further informed that a total of 48,354 cases were brought up for hearing during the Lok Adalat, out of which 47,452 cases were successfully resolved through mutual settlement. The District and Sessions Judge, accompanied by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM)-cum-Secretary of the DLSA, Jalandhar—Rahul Kumar—inspected the benches established in Jalandhar.
The Chairperson of the DLSA, Jalandhar, remarked that Lok Adalats serve to provide speedy justice to citizens. The verdict delivered by a Lok Adalat is final and binding; there is no provision for filing an appeal against it, as it is based entirely on the mutual agreement reached between the two contesting parties. Furthermore, any court fee deposited by the applicant is refunded. The Secretary of the DLSA, Jalandhar, noted that Lok Adalats are organized periodically. To present a case before a Lok Adalat or to obtain further information regarding any legal matter, individuals may contact the toll-free helpline number 15100. He further announced that the next Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on May 9. Members of the District Bar Association (DBA), Jalandhar, also participated actively in this Lok Adalat. The President, Secretary, and other office-bearers of the District Bar Association, Jalandhar, were present on this occasion.
