Jalandhar: Inspection of cooperative societies continues to prevent hoarding of fertilizers

Jalandhar: Various teams of the Agriculture Department today inspected the shops of fertilizer vendors across the district. Dr Deepinder Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Hoshiarpur, led the teams that inspected these in Hoshiarpur. Besides, Agriculture Development Officer (Enforcement) Dr Jatin Vashisht and Agriculture Officer Dr Harmandeep Singh inspected cooperative societies in Hoshiarpur district. During the inspection, the officer reviewed the POS records, cross-checked the stock list and assessed the compliance of dealers and cooperative societies with regulatory guidelines.

The aim was to prevent any possible shortage, hoarding or misuse of fertilizers, ensuring that the farming community has continuous access to essential inputs. The Agriculture Department has stressed that such inspections will be conducted to promote transparency, combat black marketing of fertilizers. The inspected cooperative societies were directed to comply with all regulatory requirements and maintain updated records in their POS systems. These efforts were part of a broader initiative by the Agriculture Department to ensure sustainable agricultural practices. DC Komal Mittal said that fertilizer is available in sufficient quantity across the district and hoarding of fertilizer by any dealer will not be tolerated at all. The DC said that fertilizer is being made available to farmers through cooperative societies and dealers and if any dealer is found hoarding, strict action will be taken against him under the Fertilizer Control Order 1985.
