Jalandhar: Illegal Weapons and Narcotics Seized in Separate Cases; Several Arrested

Jalandhar: The police have registered several cases in Kapurthala and Phagwara after recovering an illegal weapon, narcotic pills, heroin, and contraband items from accused individuals during routine patrols and searches. Meanwhile, two additional cases were registered based on complaints filed by officials of the Central Jail, Kapurthala. In the first incident, a police patrol team stationed near Fattiwindi village received a tip-off from a local resident regarding a young man standing at the bus stand with a suspicious bag. Acting on this information, the police apprehended the suspect and identified him as Dharam Singh alias Dharma, a resident of Femiwala village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Makhu police station in Ferozepur district. During the search, the police recovered a country-made 7.65 mm pistol from his possession. A case has been registered against him under the relevant provisions of the law.
In another instance, a police team patrolling near Sheetla Mandir Road in Phagwara spotted a young man who, upon seeing the police party, panicked; he threw a black polythene packet by the roadside and attempted to flee. The police gave chase and, with the assistance of accompanying personnel, successfully apprehended him. The accused was identified as Aksar alias Akshay, a resident of Pehchan Nagar in Phagwara. Upon examining the packet, the police recovered 75 strips of Addnok-N 2/0.5 mg tablets, containing a total of 750 narcotic pills. During the subsequent investigation, two additional accused individuals—Jatinder alias Kalu (a resident of Chhajj Colony, Phagwara) and Vishal (a resident of the Prempura area, Phagwara)—were also implicated in the case. All the accused have been arrested, and further investigations are underway.
In a separate development, a case was registered based on a complaint filed by Joginder Pal, the Assistant Superintendent of the Central Jail, Kapurthala. According to the complaint, during a routine inspection within the jail premises, two white earphones and a blue OPPO touchscreen mobile phone (containing a Jio SIM card) were recovered from the clothing of undertrial prisoner Varinder Kumar alias Mola (a resident of Jalandhar). Since mobile phones and related accessories are prohibited within the jail premises, these items were confiscated, and a case was registered against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Prisons Act. In another instance—registered based on a complaint filed by Dheeraj Kumar, the Assistant Superintendent of Central Jail, Kapurthala—undertrial prisoner Jagjit Kumar alias Gona (a resident of Baniya Mohalla, Phillaur) was found in possession of contraband material during a search conducted at the jail gate upon his return from a court appearance. During the search, conducted under security supervision, officials recovered 31 unmarked white narcotic pills concealed within a cloth tied around his head. These pills were seized, and a case was registered against the accused under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and the Prisons Act. The police stated that further investigations into all these cases are currently underway.
