Jalandhar: Government Teachers’ Association provides assistance to flood-affected families

Jalandhar: On a humanitarian note, the Rajkiya Shikshak Sangh, Kapurthala, under the leadership of state president Sukhwinder Singh Chahal, provided financial assistance to flood-affected students and a cook at the Government Primary School, Mand Baupur. Raj Kaur, a school cook whose house was washed away in the floods, received Rs 21,000 in aid. Another Class 6 student, living in a dilapidated house, received Rs 5,100. Raj Kaur’s 20-year-old son told The Tribune, “There is no work these days after the floods. We are struggling a lot and are taking shelter in someone else’s house.” Two other students, whose houses were completely destroyed, were given Rs 11,000 each.
Union leader Rashpal Singh Waraich and district president Sukhchain Singh Badhan said the union has been continuously helping flood-affected students across the region. Previously, the union had distributed school bags to the affected children. School in-charges Amandeep Singh and Yadvinder Singh Pandori raised these issues and highlighted the plight of the students and cooks. The district committee acted swiftly and approved immediate financial assistance. Union leaders also pledged to continue helping all school staff or cooks whose homes were damaged. Senior union leader Joginder Singh Amanipur, who came from Canada, and Parminder Kaur, a teacher at Government Primary School, Dadwindi, also contributed Rs. 5,000 to the relief efforts. Teacher Yadvinder Singh Pandori expressed gratitude for the timely assistance and recalled the union’s previous contributions to cleaning and maintenance during emergencies.
