Jalandhar: Gang of thieves busted, 9 in police custody

Jalandhar: Jalandhar Rural Police has arrested nine members of a notorious gang involved in incidents of theft and robbery in the area. 11 stolen motorcycles and nine deadly weapons were recovered in the operation. Those arrested include Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha, Surinder Singh alias Sonu, Mahendra Kumar alias Monu, Ravi Kumar alias Ravi, Jaspreet alias Jassa, Neeraj Kumar alias Sabi, Mathew Masih alias Gona, Tarlok Kumar alias Bundi and Paramjeet. Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, while talking to media, said that a police team led by SHO Sukhdev Singh under the guidance and direction of DSP Sarwan Singh Ball of Phillaur has effectively dismantled this notorious criminal network.

He said that the operation was launched based on information received by Inspector Sukhdev Singh about the presence of gang members in Zakhira area of ​​Phillaur. The police team swiftly surrounded and arrested the accused. The gang had been carrying out robberies and motorcycle thefts in Phillaur, Nagar, Appara, Guraya, Bilga and Ludhiana areas for several months. The gang members would hide in a secluded area and consume drugs before committing the crimes. During these incidents they would steal cash, jewellery and other valuables. The police launched a swift and strategic operation and cordoned off the gang’s hideout near Garha village on Nawanshahr Road, where the accused were allegedly planning to rob a petrol pump. All nine members were arrested during the operation and stolen motorcycles and weapons were seized.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to having committed more than 25 robberies and robberies in Phillaur. The accused were found to be habitual offenders and have a long history of being involved in various criminal activities. Several FIRs are lodged against the gang members in various police stations. The police are now in the process of linking these suspects to several unsolved cases, to further strengthen their case against the gang. The accused will be produced in the local court for remand to investigate the case and their links. Giving a clear warning to those involved in criminal activities, SSP Khakh said that Jalandhar Rural Police is firm in its efforts to eliminate crime from the area.
