Jalandhar: Football club organises match to celebrate new ground

Jalandhar: Daily Morning Football Club, Nawanshahr organised a football match at RK Aryan College ground on Basant Panchami to celebrate the club’s newly allotted football ground. The ground, which is now owned by the club after its registration with the youth services department, was earlier shared with cricket teams, forcing the football players to leave their practice whenever a cricket match was scheduled. The match, played between Avtar Singh XI and Mukhtiar Rai XI, was led by the club’s star player Sukhwinder Singh Sukha. Mukhtiar Rai XI won 2-0. ​​Club president and deputy group education and information officer Tarsem Lal said Daily Morning Football Club often organises matches on special occasions such as birthdays, achievements and weddings in an effort to keep the youth away from addiction and encourage them to join sports.

He expressed gratitude to RK Aryan College principal Puneet Aneja, management committee and Nawanshahr Cricket Association for their cooperation in providing a dedicated football ground to the club. Tarsem Lal said that the club hopes to set up a football academy in Nawanshahr in the future with the continued support of the college management, NRIs and donors. The players celebrated Basant Panchami by greeting each other and sharing refreshments provided by club president Ajay Mehra. In keeping with the spirit of the programme, the club also encouraged planting of saplings on the occasion. The programme received full support from cricket coach Inderpal, Tour Committee Nawanshahr and new and experienced players of the club.
