Jalandhar: Five drug smugglers arrested in separate raids
Jalandhar: In a drive aimed at tackling street crime and drug peddlers, Jalandhar Rural Police has detained 5 persons and registered four FIRs in 24 hours across all sub-divisions of Jalandhar Rural. Police teams have recovered 150 intoxicant pills, 50 grams of heroin and drug money worth Rs 4,800. The arrested accused have been identified as Palwinder Singh alias Sona, village Cheema, Kartarpur, Amardeep alias Harman, Mehatpur, Athaula, Lambra and Balbir Singh alias Beera, SBS Nagar. SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said that special police teams were formed under the leadership of SP, Investigation, Jasroop Kaur Baath to control street crime and drug peddling at the ground level.
The SSP said that Kartarpur police detained a juvenile at a naka and recovered 30 intoxicant pills. Secondly, Mehatpur police caught a man who used to steal items from fruit vendors and they also arrested a notorious thief who used to target deserted houses and steal valuables. The police team caught him and recovered an AC from his possession. Thirdly, Lambra police team detained another man with 110 narcotic pills who was planning to sell them and recovered drug money worth Rs 2,500 from him. Lastly, Phillaur police caught a drug smuggler at a check point who was carrying heroin in his car. On checking, the police team recovered 50 grams of heroin.
