Jalandhar: Fire broke out in three factories of Gadaipur and Leather Complex

Punjab: The city’s Gadaipur area witnessed panic this morning when a massive fire broke out in two rubber and tyre factories around 4 am. Thick black smoke emanating from the units was visible from around a kilometre away, creating panic among residents and prompting emergency services to swing into immediate action. The third incident occurred around 8 am in the Leather Complex area where a fire broke out at the Baba International Sports Factory and goods worth lakhs were gutted in the blaze. According to Gadaipur officials, the fire broke out suddenly and spread quickly due to the highly inflammable materials stored inside the factories. Residents were the first to notice the flames and informed the factory owners and the fire department. The Jalandhar fire department received the alert around 4:15 am and immediately rushed teams from its head office as well as a nearby private establishment to the spot.

Despite firefighting efforts for over three hours, the fire could not be fully controlled till morning. However, there were no reports of any casualties or injuries. Police teams also reached the Gadaipur fire spot and helped in evacuating the area to ensure the safety of people. The two factories located near the Focal Point Industrial Area reportedly had stored large quantities of rubber and tyre material, which led to the fire. Fire brigade officials said the exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained and would be investigated after inspecting the factories. Officials have confirmed that a thorough inspection will be conducted to determine if adequate fire safety measures were in place at the factories. If negligence is found, action will be taken under relevant industrial safety laws. Meanwhile, the incident has again highlighted the need for strict adherence to safety protocols in industries dealing with hazardous materials.
