Jalandhar: Eye checkup camp organised for roadways and taxi drivers

Jalandhar: In view of the instructions issued by the government, the month of January is being celebrated as National Road Safety Month. Under the guidelines of Deputy Commissioner Ankurjit Singh, many activities are being carried out in collaboration with the Transport Department, Traffic Police, Health Department, under which an eye check-up camp was organized for Punjab Roadways and taxi drivers at the bus stand, Nawanshahr. This camp was inaugurated by Regional Transport Officer Inderpal. On this occasion, Ophthalmic Officer of the Health Department, Dr. Harjinder, examined the eyes of about 65 roadways and taxi drivers, out of which the vision numbers of 8 drivers were taken on the spot for glasses and 5 drivers were referred to the District Hospital for machine vision numbers. Regional Transport Officer Indrapal said that during the Road Safety Month, which is being observed from January 1st to January 31st, the district administration, in collaboration with various departments, is running an awareness campaign to make people aware of traffic rules. Under this campaign, reflectors were installed on tractor trolleys and other vehicles at various locations to avoid fog. A signature camp was organized as part of the awareness campaign, and an eye checkup camp was set up for applicants who came to apply for a license. In addition, free helmets were distributed to two-wheeler riders, and the importance of helmets was explained.
