Jalandhar: Domestic help found dead in Shiv Vihar

Jalandhar: A 22-year-old domestic help working in Model Town area allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a fan in the house of former Congress councillor Rohan Sehgal’s mother in Shiv Vihar on Saturday morning. The deceased has been identified as Nikita Verma, who originally hailed from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and was living with her aunt in Sodal Nagar. Nikita had been working as a domestic help in Sehgal’s mother’s house for the past five years. Nikita’s aunt Krishna Verma was informed about her niece’s death early in the morning. On reaching the spot, she expressed doubts over the circumstances surrounding Nikita’s death. She claimed that no evidence was found at the spot to suggest that her niece had committed suicide. She suspects that there is a conspiracy involved in her niece’s death. Though Krishna did not directly accuse anyone, she urged the police to investigate the matter thoroughly. Unconfirmed reports also suggest that the police have found a pregnancy test strip near Nikita’s body, raising further questions over the circumstances of her death. SHO Division No. 7 Anu Palyal said that the body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem. The SHO informed that the police are investigating the case from every possible angle. The SHO informed that Nikita’s parents live in Bihar and they have been informed about the incident. The SHO informed that further legal proceedings will be initiated based on the statement of her parents after their arrival. When asked if any foul play is suspected and what led to the pregnancy strip being found, Palyal said that nothing can be said right now as the investigation is underway. Meanwhile, Rohan Sehgal’s lawyer Harminder Singh Sandhu in his statement to media persons said that the family is fully cooperating with the police in the investigation. He informed that his client’s family has handed over the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the house to the police.
