Jalandhar: Case registered against two people on charges of kidnapping

Phagwara: Police have registered a case of kidnapping and demanding ransom against two Ludhiana men. Shahkot DSP Onkar Singh Brar said the accused have been identified as Gulab Singh and his brother Jashan Singh, residents of Haidra Nagar, Kum Kalan police station in Ludhiana. A resident of Bahmanai village told the police in a complaint that the accused kidnapped his brother Jagjit Singh (50) on November 30, kept him in their custody and forcibly extorted Rs 1.92 lakh from him. JCT employees stage dharna Phagwara: Angry employees of JCT Mill, Phagwara staged a dharna again in front of JCT mill gate under the leadership of Ajay Kumar, President JCT Mill, Phagwara (Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh), Kamal Saroj, local level Shiv Sena leader, Sunil Pandey, President JCT Mill, Phagwara, INTUC against their pending dues and electricity problem in Thapar Colony. The protesters were raising slogans against JCT Director Sameer Thapar for not paying the pending dues of the employees. Later, he met SDM Phagwara Jashanjit Singh and then XEN PSPCL Hardeep Kumar and demanded restoration of power supply to the colony.

1 booked for setting farm on fire, 2 detained

Phagwara: Police have booked a villager for burning paddy stubble. The suspect has been identified as Surinder Kumar of Ramuwal village. Police had received online complaints of farms being set on fire in Rauli village. Nurmahal police have arrested Makhan Singh and Ajaib Singh of Bundala village on the same charge.

Villager detained for snatching

Phagwara: Police have arrested a villager for snatching cash. The accused has been identified as Amardeep alias Hama of Shah Salempur village. Nayam Khan of Purewal Colony, Nakodar complained to police that he sells fruits in Mehatpur and the accused and his accomplices snatched Rs 2,000 from him on the evening of December 1. A case has been registered against the accused.

Woman arrested for selling liquor
Phagwara: Mehatpur police have arrested a woman and registered a case against another for selling illicit liquor. Investigating officer Avtar Singh said that 80 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from the possession of Rajni Bala, a resident of Mohalla Kila in Mehatpur. A case has been registered against the accused, while another woman from the same locality managed to escape.
Bike riders assaulted, looted cash
Phagwara: Last night, five miscreants attacked two people on a motorcycle near Nanak Nagri in Phagwara, injured them and snatched their belongings. Motorcycle rider Tushar Singh and his pillion friend Suraj Kumar were going for dinner, but their bike malfunctioned on the way. Five attackers attacked them with iron rods. The miscreants snatched three mobile phones and Rs 18,000 from them.
