Jalandhar: Cars and plastic items gutted in a warehouse fire

Jalandhar: A massive fire broke out in a shutter (metal gate) warehouse near Bhullarai Chowk on the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur Road on Sunday night, causing extensive damage and financial losses of approximately ₹7 lakh. The incident spread panic in the area, with thick smoke visible from afar. According to initial reports, the warehouse contained highly flammable materials, including plastic items and shutters, which spread the fire rapidly. The fire brigade arrived at the scene with more than half a dozen fire tenders. Firefighters worked tirelessly for several hours and finally brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby shops and homes.

Shop owner Balwinder Kumar said that a function was taking place nearby at the time of the incident. He alleged that sparks from firecrackers burst during the function fell inside the warehouse, causing the fire. Within minutes, the fire engulfed the stored goods, including three cars, plastic stock, and other valuables. Despite the fire department’s timely response, the fire was so intense that it caused significant damage before it could be extinguished. Fire officials confirmed that no injuries were reported, although significant property damage was reported. Officials are investigating the exact cause of the fire and have urged people to exercise caution when using fireworks, especially in commercial and densely populated areas.
