Jalandhar: Cab driver found dead in hotel in Delhi

Jalandhar: A youth was found dead in his room in a hotel located in Poonian village along Banga-Mukandpur road this morning. The deceased has been identified as Sunil Vij, who allegedly committed suicide. Hotel owner Gaurav told police that Sunil Vij was from 70 DDA flats, Jahangirpuri, New Delhi and was currently staying in Mandhali village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. He arrived at the hotel late Sunday evening in his car bearing registration number DL2 CAV 4970 and requested a room. After being allotted a room, Vij had dinner and went to sleep for the night. In the morning, the hotel staff knocked on his door but there was no response. Repeated attempts to elicit a response also resulted in no response following which they had to forcefully open the door.

They were shocked when they found Vij hanging in the room. Banga police was immediately informed. SHO Manjit Kaur, along with ASI Ram Lal and other officers rushed to the spot to investigate. Sunil Vij’s body and car have been taken into custody and the body has been sent to Banga mortuary for post-mortem. His family has been informed about the tragic incident. Initial reports suggest that Vij, a taxi driver by profession, had been living in Mandhali for the last 4-5 years. However, the reasons behind the alleged suicide are still unclear. The police are conducting further investigations to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. CCTV footage from the hotel and Vij’s personal belongings, including his phone, may be examined as part of the investigation. The incident has caused an uproar in the local community, highlighting the need for greater awareness about mental health issues.
