Jalandhar: A man arrested on charges of making ransom calls.

Jalandhar: Goraya police have registered a case of extortion and criminal intimidation following a complaint from a local resident. The complainant alleged that he was receiving continuous threatening calls demanding Rs 20 lakh via WhatsApp. A case has been registered and one accused has been arrested. Phillaur DSP Bharat Masih said here today that the complainant, Harmanjot Singh, a resident of Jajja Kalan village near Goraya, alleged that he had been receiving threatening phone calls on his mobile number since January 22.
These calls were being made via WhatsApp, and a demand of Rs 20 lakh was allegedly being made, along with threats of dire consequences if the demand was not met. Goraya police have registered a case against Parasjit of Nurmahal, who has been arrested in this connection. The FIR also names Henry, an NRI from Nurmahal who is currently residing in South Africa, and an unknown person. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused wanted to extort money from the complainant by intimidating him. Efforts are underway to identify the accused residing abroad and the unknown accomplice, and to ascertain their roles in the crime.
