Jalandhar: A convict released on parole was caught while trying to flee to Dubai.

Jalandhar: A prisoner serving a 10-year sentence, who was out on parole, attempted to flee to Dubai from Kolkata airport using a forged passport. However, before the accused could succeed in his plan, the immigration department team apprehended him and handed him over to the Kolkata police. ASI Anil Kumar, posted at Dasuya police station, stated in his complaint that the accused told the police that he had been sentenced to 10 years in a case related to a gangster category offense. He was serving his sentence at the Goindwal Sahib Central Jail.
According to him, he was granted 14 days of parole on November 7. His leave was scheduled to end on November 21. He fled from his home according to a pre-planned scheme. He stated that he had previously obtained a passport whose validity expired on July 11, 2022. The accused told the police that he could not get his passport renewed due to the ongoing case against him. On the advice of his associates, he went to Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh and managed to obtain a new passport by providing a false address from a village in Lakhimpur Kheri district. He stated that he reached Kolkata airport on December 1 to travel to Dubai. However, before he could depart, the immigration team apprehended him and handed him over to the Kolkata police. The Dasuya police have now registered a case of forgery against the accused and have initiated further proceedings.
