Jalandhar: A case has been registered regarding online extortion and misuse of social media.

Jalandhar: Police have registered a case in the Jalandhar-Kapurthala area on charges of online extortion, criminal intimidation, and misuse of social media platforms to defame and mislead the public. The complaint was filed by Harvinder Singh, also known as Dara, a resident of Garibkhas village, who currently lives in Talwandi Pai village of Kapurthala district. He alleged that he was receiving death threats over the phone and that some individuals, including Kulwant Singh, a resident of Khera Bet village under Fattudhinga police station in Kapurthala district, and some other unknown persons, were pressuring him to pay them money. The complainant further alleged that fake Facebook IDs were created using his personal photos, through which objectionable, abusive, and obscene content was uploaded. He also claimed that a WhatsApp group was created in the name of Baba Charan Das, in which devotees’ phone numbers were added without their consent.
