Jail administration is infamous, High Court took cognizance of prisoner beating case

Bilaspur. The Chhattisgarh High Court had taken suo motu cognizance of the beating and illegal recovery of a prisoner in Sarangarh sub-jail. The court is continuously hearing the petition, accepting this matter as a public interest litigation. The hearing was held today in the division bench of High Court Chief Justice Ramesh Kumar Sinha and Justice Ravindra Kumar Agarwal, in which the Advocate General responded to the affidavit from the state government regarding action against the jail personnel in this entire matter. At the same time, in compliance with the previous order, it was told that investigation of 3 people is still going on in the case. 2 people have been acquitted. Now the High Court has directed the DGP to file a new affidavit, giving time till April 3.
During the hearing on January 15, 2025, it was said in the affidavit that in the investigation initiated against 10 persons, the investigation against one guilty employee has been completed and he has been punished. While the investigation report has been submitted in 3 cases and show cause notice has been issued. With this, the investigation in 3 cases has been completed, the report of which is being prepared and investigation is going on in 3 cases. The state advocate was directed to file further affidavit in the case regarding the status of the investigation report and the steps taken. At the same time, the court has once again given time to the government and directed to submit a new affidavit by 3 April 2025.
