Israeli army claimed to occupy West Bank land
Hamas. Israel has made a big claim amid the ongoing war with Hamas. Israel claimed to have captured several areas adjacent to a major Jewish settlement in the West Bank. However, news agency Reuters has quoted sources as saying that at present Israel has no plans for construction here.
In a statement issued by the Israeli Defense Ministry, it was said that the land that has been captured will be part of the Maale Adumim settlement in East Jerusalem. The Israeli army has claimed occupation of about 650 acres of land in the West Bank. A spokesman for the Palestinian Authority said that Israel’s move shows its intention to undermine the possibility of creating an independent Palestinian state. Nabil Abu Roudineh, a spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, said Israel had deliberately disregarded international legitimacy and its resolutions.
Let us tell you that the West Bank is situated on the eastern border of Israel. One of its borders is the western bank of the Jordan River, hence it is called West Bank. This is the second part of Palestine, where 3 million Palestinians live. East Jerusalem also comes here. Israel captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem in the 1967 war. Thousands of Israelis are being settled here. The Palestinian Authority, led by the Fateh Movement, controls 40% of the West Bank. This entire area is spread over 5,860 square kilometers.
Israel has reportedly established several settlements in the West Bank. Many countries of the world consider them illegal. America also considers them illegal. On February 24, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had said that America considers these settlements in the West Bank as inconsistent with international law.
