Irrigation Minister: The construction of the barrage in Tummidihatti will be completed in this term
Peddapalli: Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy made it clear that the State government is committed to constructing a barrage at Tummidihatti in Adilabad district. It was in the election manifesto of the Congress party. Hence, the project will be completed in this term itself, the Minister informed while talking to reporters after inspecting the Sundilla Barrage on Friday. On the Opposition party’s allegation that no measures have been taken to restore the Medigadda Barrage, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that he has entrusted the responsibility to the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA), a highly qualified body of the Central Government, to study how much damage has been done, what kind of tests should be conducted and how repairs should be done.
The NDSA has listed some recommendations in its interim report and advised to conduct some tests at Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla Barrages. They could not visit the projects these days due to the model code of conduct. He was inspecting the ongoing works at Sundilla, Annaram and Medigadda barrages after the election code of conduct was lifted and directed the Engineering Department officials and concerned agencies to carry out the work following the recommendations of the NDSA. When asked if the work would be completed by the beginning of the rainy season, the minister informed that he has directed Navayuga Engineering Company to complete the work as soon as possible. When asked about the visit of Justice Chandra Ghosh Committee to the Medigadda project, he informed that the State government has constituted Justice Chandra Ghosh Inquiry Committee to study all the issues regarding the Medigadda damage.
