Iran war hits Pakistan; oil crisis worsens with Strait of Hormuz closure

Pakistan: The impact of the Iran war is hitting Pakistan hard. Pakistan is facing a serious crisis due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the lack of oil from abroad. The Pakistani government, which has already imposed several restrictions in the country due to the impact of oil shortage, has recently taken another key decision. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued orders imposing a ‘smart lockdown’ in the country. He took this decision after a meeting with the CMs of the states on the oil shortage.

The Pakistani Prime Minister said that this decision was taken to reduce oil consumption and preserve existing reserves. According to local radio reports on the ‘smart lockdown’, several restrictions have been imposed in areas of Pakistan such as Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. All markets, shops, and other commercial spaces must close by 8 pm. Exceptions have been made only in some areas. There, it is allowed until 9 pm. General stores, department stores, etc. must close by 8 pm. Also, bakeries, restaurants, and other food outlets can remain open until 10 pm. Also, restrictions have been imposed on wedding ceremonies.

Weddings should be held only in homes after 10 pm with a small number of people. Medical stores and pharmacies will remain open at all times. The government has said that all these restrictions will be implemented from Tuesday. Private vehicles have been banned in some places. Also, government transport is being provided free of cost. Free travel will be possible in places like Gilgit and Muzaffarabad for a month. Pakistani authorities have said that this situation will continue until the Strait of Hormuz opens and oil becomes available.
