IPS V. Prasannakumar appointed as Personal Security Officer of the Governor

Tamil Nadu: The Tamil Nadu government has made a major administrative change in the Governor’s security arrangements. Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Prasannakumar, IPS, has been appointed as the new Personal Security Officer (PSO) of Governor R.V. Orlekar. Previously, SP P. Raghupathi, IPS, who held this position, has been removed from the post.

The order in this regard was issued by K. Manivasan, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Government of Tamil Nadu. Following this order, SP V. Prasannakumar will now be responsible for the Governor’s security.

Changes in Security Arrangements

The security of a person holding a constitutional position like the Governor is considered extremely important. Keeping this in mind, the government periodically makes changes in the appointments and responsibilities of security officers.

According to an order issued by the Home Department of the Tamil Nadu government, SP V. Prasannakumar has been appointed as the Governor’s Personal Security Officer. He will now oversee the Governor’s personal security, security coordination, and related arrangements.

With this appointment, there has been a change in the security team of the Governor’s office. However, no specific reason has been mentioned in the official order for the removal of SP P. Raghupathi.

V. Prasannakumar to take on important responsibility

IPS officer V. Prasannakumar has been given this responsibility based on his significant experience in security. The position of Personal Security Officer is highly responsible, as the officer must constantly monitor security plans, programs, and tour arrangements.

The PSO is also responsible for ensuring adherence to security protocols during the Governor’s visits, public events, and official activities.

With this new responsibility, V. Prasannakumar will work to maintain better coordination between the Governor’s Office, the Police Department, and other security agencies.

P. Raghupathi was the Governor’s Security Officer

Prior to V. Prasannakumar’s appointment, SP P. Raghupathi, IPS, served as the Governor’s Personal Security Officer. Following the new government order, he has been relieved of this responsibility.

However, the order does not clarify whether P. Raghupathi has been given a new responsibility. Transfers of officers and changes in responsibilities at the administrative level are considered part of a normal process.

Home Department Issued Order

K. Manivasan, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, issued the order regarding this appointment. Following the issuance of the order, the concerned departments have been instructed to perform their duties as assigned.

According to government officials, experienced officers are appointed to ensure the Governor’s security is effective. The new appointment is part of this process.

Coordination plays a vital role in security management

Coordination between multiple departments and agencies is essential for the Governor’s security. The Personal Security Officer plays a key role in preparing security plans, reviewing programs, and assessing potential risks.

During the Governor’s public events, the security of the travel route, and emergency preparedness also fall under the responsibilities of the Security Officer.

In this context, the appointment of the new PSO is considered an administrative step towards further strengthening the Governor’s security.

An Overview of Administrative Changes

The Tamil Nadu government has periodically revised the responsibilities of officers in the police department. These changes are intended to improve administrative systems and assign responsibilities commensurate with officers’ capabilities.

The appointment of an officer to a position as important as the Governor’s security is considered highly sensitive. Therefore, a high level of vigilance and responsibility is expected from the officer appointed to this position.

Currently, Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Prasannakumar has assumed the new responsibility of Governor R.V. Orlekar’s personal security officer. In the coming days, his role will be crucial in managing the Governor’s programs and security.
