Inter-ministerial central team visits North Sikkim to assess damage caused by 2025 monsoon

MANGAN, (IPR): An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) visited North Sikkim on Friday to conduct an on-site assessment of the damage caused by the 2025 monsoon. The visit was coordinated by the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA).
The Inter-Ministerial Central Team comprised Gaya Prasad, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs; Pradeep Kumar, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development; Dr. Sasivardhan Reddy, Scientist (DMSG), National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), ISRO, Department of Space, Hyderabad; Dheeraj, Superintending Engineer, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Regional Office, Guwahati; Jintu Das, Joint Director, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Department of Jute Development, Kolkata; Dr. K.R. Rajeshwari, Joint Director, Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure (FCD); and Nitin Kumar Verma, Executive Engineer, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Central Water Commission, Gangtok.
The SSDMA team was led by SSDMA Director Rajiv Roka and assisted by Deputy Director Keshav Koirala. They were accompanied by Mangan SDM Sandeep Kumar, Chungthang SDM Arun Chhetri, Kabi SDM Monika Rai, Mangan DPO Karma Dorji Bhutia, and officials from various line departments, who provided detailed sector-wise information during the field inspection.
The primary objective of the IMCT visit was to assess the potential damage to infrastructure and public utilities across various sectors during the 2025 monsoon.
The inspection commenced and concluded in Gangtok, covering the following locations in North Sikkim: Phensang (Water Resources), Phodong (Health), Mangshila (Education), Mangan (Urban Development/Roads & Bridges), Pakshepa (Power/Rural Development/Roads), Kazor (Rural Development), Singhik, Naga (Power/Rural Development), Toong (Power/Rural Development), Chungthang (Urban Development/Public Health Engineering), Tarum (Power) and the newly constructed Tarum Bridge.
