New Delhi: India has extended the ban on Pakistani aircraft using Indian airspace until May 24th. This decision will see Indian airspace remain closed for Pakistani aircraft for more than a year.
This ban was first implemented on April 22nd, 2025, a few days after the Pahalgam terror attack. Following the attack, India decided to close its airspace to Pakistani aircraft due to security concerns and the tense situation.
Since then, the airspace restrictions between the two countries have been extended periodically. Both India and Pakistan have kept their airspace closed to each other’s aircraft, each time extending the deadline.
In the latest decision, India has once again extended the ban on its airspace for Pakistani aircraft until May 24th. Similarly, Pakistan has also extended the closure of its airspace for Indian aircraft until May 24th.
This situation impacts airlines and international flight routes for both countries, forcing aircraft to use alternative routes. This also results in changes to flight schedules and operating costs.
This air embargo between India and Pakistan was imposed due to security and political circumstances and continues to be in place. It is periodically reviewed by both countries and extended depending on the situation.
With this latest extension, it is clear that the current restrictions on air connectivity between the two countries will continue.
