Increase in infection cases due to rain in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Incessant rains and inclement weather conditions in Hyderabad and surrounding suburbs have become ideal for the rise of viral and bacterial infections. Already, clinics, nursing homes and local basti dawakhanas as well as private health care facilities run by general practitioners are witnessing a significant rise in viral fever cases, especially those related to upper respiratory tract infections.

Senior immunologists and seasonal disease experts have advised people to focus on their immunity, as they did during the Covid pandemic. Senior immunologist Dr. Vyakaranamm Nageswara advised that “people should individually identify and realise the changes taking place in their body immunity. For example, if you conduct a random check of 100 individuals in Hyderabad, about 85 per cent will have severe deficiency of vitamin D, which is very important for strengthening immunity.” Apart from taking basic precautions, families can ensure that vulnerable individuals, including senior citizens, children and pregnant women, are administered flu vaccines, which should be given based on the prescription of physicians.
