In Haryana, Shailaja said, the government is misusing central agencies

Sirsa: Senior Haryana Congress leader and Member of Parliament Kumari Selja alleged on Sunday that democracy is under attack across the country. She accused the BJP-led central government of misusing central agencies, especially in states where the BJP is not in power.
After meeting Congress workers in the Dabwali area of Sirsa district and listening to people’s complaints, Selja told the media that the use of central agencies increases whenever elections approach.
She cited the example of West Bengal and alleged that attempts are being made to influence the democratic process before the elections.
Seilja also accused the BJP government of weakening the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and depriving the poor of their rights.
She said that the Congress government had implemented the MGNREGA during the UPA regime to provide 100 days of guaranteed employment to rural families, for which the central government had full financial responsibility.
She alleged that the current government has weakened the scheme by reducing the powers of panchayats and states and shifting 40 percent of the financial burden to the states, making it less effective while reducing employment opportunities in rural areas.
Shailaja said that the Congress party has always stood with the poor and backward classes and will continue to fight to protect their rights.
