Impact player rule can prolong Dhoni’s career: Dwayne Bravo

Chennai (IANS) | Dwayne Bravo has expressed his belief that the recently introduced Impact Player rule in the IPL could contribute to the extension of MS Dhoni’s tenure with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Dhoni-led Super Kings registered a 15-run win over Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday. With this win, CSK has reached a record 10th IPL final.

Bravo, speaking to Star Sports, said that the impact player rule in IPL offers Dhoni an opportunity to extend his IPL career, and he praised the CSK skipper’s unique skill of maintaining a calm and composed demeanor during high-pressure situations. Cast light on.

“Hundred per cent (will he come back to play for CSK in 2024), especially with the impact player rule. He can prolong his career. We bat really deep, I think,” Bravo said. Players like Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube make a big difference. So, you don’t need much from MS. But his ability to keep us calm when the team is under pressure is unmatched.”

After the match, Dhoni highlighted his retirement plans and said “he has had enough time to decide” whether he would play another edition of the IPL, adding that he would stick with the team, regardless of whether it was as a player. Be it in or as a member of the support staff.

“I don’t know. I have 8-9 months to decide. The short auction will happen around December. So why take that headache now? I have enough to decide,” Dhoni said at the post-match presentation. There is time. But, I will always be there for CSK in whatever form it takes, I really don’t know.”

Aiming for their fifth IPL title, CSK will play the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 28.
